Welcome to Becoming a Chess Master, where you can follow my journey as I study, play and try to master chess.
I started studying chess in 2013, when I was 43, and had my first over the board rated game in December 2013. My goal is to be the best chess player I can possibly be. My first English Chess Federation (ECF) rating at the end of December 2013 was 78 (Elo 1285). My latest ECF rating is 121, or 1608 Elo.
I wanted to capture my journey of chess improvement and decided to do so in this blog. I hope you find some value from my experiences.
Aside from the blog, you will find instructional content on chess openings, strategy, endgames and tactics; chess study plans; tips for moving from playing online to playing over the board chess (the only real chess!); chess books and software reviews; mastery; and other information to help you improve at chess.
New content is added all the time, so sign up as a subscriber and call back in. I wish you luck with your own chess journey!
